A boom that shines. Actually, I might call it Shineboom. That seems to describe the game more accurately.

Boomshine is very simple: there are little pastel colored dots floating around the screen and gently bouncing off the walls. The object is to make an explosion on the screen, which is achieved by a click of the mouse, with the aim of trapping as many of the pastel dots in the explosion as possible. When they enter the boom, they also boom.

There are 12 levels. As you advance there are more dots and more that you have to explode to progress. On level 1, you have to only get 1 of 5. On level 12 you have to get 55 of 60.

While playing, you have very peaceful, soothing background music. Even the sound of the boom is peaceful; more akin to wind chimes than actual explosions. This is a necessary feature. I don’t know how many objects level 11 would provoke me to throw across the room if it weren’t for the soothing tones of boomshine.

Another element of the game is getting a boomshine. This is achieved when every dot of the level explodes. I have only attained this once, and it was quite by accident, as most of my successes are. Now, no matter how I try, the boomshine eludes me. And boy have I tried!

Strategy. My strategy involves squinting my eyes so all the floating pastels are blurry, then I determine where the most common trajectory is and I wait for the right moment and then: click! I start the booming and shining. Does this work? Yes. Sure. It works just as well as random placement and timing.
