I’m sure you have heard about Google Adsense one time or another but you may not be completely sure what it is or even how it works. See, Google pays you whenever ads that they place on your site are clicked. That isn’t the awesome part though. Their spider program looks at your site and reads your post…and then it matches the ads to fit with your posts. You may have thought that the website owners had to do this but Google does it automatically.

Sure, that is a very simplified way of viewing it but lets get into the nitty gritty of it from a webmaster’s perspective. There are a few ways that I can make sure that Adsense is more accurate. The first is I can write my post and go back in and put code around the parts that contain keywords I want targeted. Now, i don’t know too much code so I’m not too thrilled about doing this.

The other is to either have WP 2.3 or a previous version with All-In-One SEO plugin going. What we are doing is putting meta data/tags into the post so Google knows what to target. WordPress 2.3 comes with it as a standard feature but users of previous versions will need a plugin like All-In-One SEO.

The whole point of this is so you can make money from your site. Google pays you each time an ad is clicked. That means that if noone clicks your ads, you are in the hole. But if people are clicking your ads, you are golden.

Another way you can make money with Adsense is referrals. Referrals are when people sign up wth Google Adsense by clicking on a special link on your site. I have mine at the top and bottom of this post. If you are interested in getting started with Google Adsense, check it out. The absolute best thing is that it is free. No sign-up fees and no commitments. So check out Google Adsense and see how you can start making money today.

BTW - Did I mention I get credit if you sign up thru me? I didn’t? I guess I also forgot to tell you that I get paid if you click on the Google links. Oh well, I guess I will just have to rely on the goodness of my readers. *wink*
