Microvision Cell Phone ProjectorMicrovision has been working on a crazy little laser-based projector. And when I say little, I mean itty-bitty. Teeny tiny. Seriously, the entire thing looks to be about the size of a stack of three quarters (it’s the funny little squarish bit to the right of the phone). And supposedly, in a darkened room, it will project an image up to 100 inches across.

If this thing comes to fruition, it’s going to bring in a whole new era of cell phones. Imagine a cell phone with the Microvision projector, a hundred GB of onboard memory or so (it’s only a matter of time), the battery Stanford is developing (10x the life of current batteries, more about that later), and an audio jack. You’d have a very, very, very portable home theater system. Way cooler than an iPhone. Unless Apple’s the one to integrate the projector. In which case it’d probably cost as much as a new Bentley.

It’s such a cool idea I can hardly stand it. That’s the kind of gadget I’d camp out in front of Fry’s Electronics for a week to get. In the winter. In Minnesota.

Anyway, Microvision has put together a cool little flash animation to demonstrate the tech, you should probably check it out right now.

Forget the iPhone or the Google Phone. Bring me the Home Theater Phone.
