iPod Touch - More than just an iPod

I’m sure by now you are completely tired of hearing about the whole iPhone debacle due to Steve Jobs cutting the price of the iPhone $200. I know I have heard at least 4 hours of conversation dedicated to this. That’s now what I am going to talk about today. So you can take one HUGE sigh of relief and calm yourself. I am, however, going to talk about the new iPod Touch.
The new iPod Touch has the same interface that everyone has been raving about on the iPhone. It is sleek, new, and brilliant if you ask me. I don’t have one…yet, but I am planning on getting one to do a full review as soon as I can. This post is about what the iPod Touch could be very soon in the future.
Because the iPod Touch has the same underlying OS as the iPhone, it will be able to run third party software that will add functionality. Currently Apple isn’t supporting third party software for the iPhone or iPod Touch but I’m sure they will sooner than you think. So what does this mean for the portable media players market? It means Apple has upped the ante and raised expectations.
Sure, the biggest storage size you can get is a 16 GB iPod Touch, but that will change soon. This technology will be advancing as fast as possible to take the iPod Touch into the next level. No, that isn’t kicking the pants off of all the other mp3 player companies — they’ve already accomplished that. I’m talking about the PDA market.
The Apple Newton

Yes, for all you fanboys out there, this isn’t that much of a surprise. Apple is going to take the one market they single-handedly started and then subsequently lost - PDAs. For those of you who do no know what I am talking about, I will explain.
Back in 1993, Apple produced the first PDA. Now the Newton was so new that the acronym PDA hadn’t even been thought up. The Newton had all the great features current PDAs have.
- Calendar
- Address Book
- Scheduler
- Notepad
- Handwriting Recognition
- Clock
- A few games
- And even internet access if you connected it right
The Newton came with some pretty innovative accessories also. There was a full qwerty keyboard you could connect to the Newton to type quickly. Can you believe they were putting this out that early on in the game? Because of that, a dismal few were sold. Apple scrapped the program and stuck to their computer line. Now it looks like Apple is turning back to PDAs as the wave of the future.
I may not be an industry analyst, but I can see this coming. I think a blind man in space floating into a black hole could see this coming. I’m surprised the PDA industry isn’t up in arms about this. Maybe the iPhone price drop was the perfect ruse.
Think about it, if the main thing people talked about was the true possibility of the iPod Touch don’t you think it would have caught the attention of PDA makers? The iPod Touch wasn’t an afterthought. I think it is actually the primary plan with the iPhone taking all the first wave PR to blindside the PDA makers.
Watch, as soon as the programming toolkit comes out for the iPod Touch/iPhone, we’ll see an explosion of sales for them.
What do you think will happen with the iPod Touch and/or iPhone in the future? Do you think Apple is zeroing in on another industry to dominate? Let your voice be heard on the comments.

Good stuff, thanks.
I wonder why so many people like to comment stuff. Why is this kind of spending your free time so popular? Maybe people have a lack of communication in real world? Maybe that’s because they have a lot of problems in reality and want to run away from them? Maybe they need new impressions and experience? Or they just got suck here? I don’t have a clue. What do you all think?
